Changes planned for Diggers

Pedro's Mexican Cantina at Wests' Diggers ceased operations shortly after the 2009 Tamworth Country Music Festival to make way for major renovations on the ground floor of the Kable Ave club.

Wests Entertainment Group CEO Rod Laing said consultants engaged by the club had determined Pedro's as the "weakest link" in the club's food chain, due to the limited size of the venue. "With capacity for just 30 patrons, there are real limitations on turnover, and we are now revamping the food operations to build on our strengths," Mr Laing said. "The outstanding success of Nero's Coffee Lounge at Wests has been duplicated at Diggers, and we will now build on that success, with a little rebranding and expansion of the menu. "Food has always been an area where the Wests group has excelled.

This is set to continue with the new-look food area being redeveloped at Diggers." Pedro's staff were notified of the situation. No staff jobs were lost. They have been absorbed in to other areas of the Wests operation. Pedro's - Tamworth 's only Mexican restaurant - closed its doors in February and renovations will begin immediately after that.

A courtesy Bus will now be operating seven days a week, collecting passengers from a variety of accommodation houses and delivering them to two of Tamworth's leading entertainment venues, The West Tamworth League Club and West Diggers.
The daily bus run will include twenty one motels and caravan parks within Tamworth and each accommodation venue will have two collection timers per night.
This service has been welcomed by local moteliers with the owners of The Motel Grande on Goonoo Goonoo Rd, Heather and Mike Filosi saying ‘Motel Grande welcomes the opportunity to compliment their newly refurbished units by offering their guests the new courtesy bus provided by The Wests Entertainment Group. Now everyone can enjoy a great meal and drinks at either club and a safe ride to and from their accommodation'.
Both West Tamworth League Club and West Diggers have great entertainment all week long. This entertainment includes raffles, bingo and free live music every Friday and Saturday nights, not to mention the stellar artists that appear in concerts throughout the year.
The courtesy bus run will commence Friday 17th July 2009, just in time for Hats Off. All the accommodation houses have been issued with the buses' timetable in order to hand out to their clients. Timetables are also available from Wests or Diggers.

Three time Grammy nominee Toni Childs is heading to Australia for a national tour and will be performing at The West Tamworth League Club on Wednesday 21^st October 2009.

Toni will thrill audiences with her signature husky vocals and emotive lyrics and joining Toni in Tamworth is former Australian Idol Favourite Bobby Flynn.

This upcoming tour see’s Toni performing her blockbuster hits, as well as showcasing her latest hit album ‘Keep the Faith’. Best known for heavily  R & B influenced ‘Don’t Walk Away’, Toni Childs hit the big time in 1988 when her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Union’ went double platinum in Australia, selling 200 000 albums. The same year she was nominated for three Grammy’s, including Best New Artist. Her second album, House of Hope went three times platinum and in 1997, the release of Many Rivers to Cross caused her greatest hits album to go five times platinum, selling over 500,000 albums.

Living on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, Toni has spent the last eight years recovering from the Graves Disease that she was diagnosed with in the summer of 1997. Overcoming her battle with this rare stress disorder, she recently came back from her musical exile.

Toni’s special guest in Tamworth Bobby Flynn, began his musical journey in Brisbane as a child writing songs and melodies that he described as ‘magic’. Bobby was 11 years of age when he wrote his first song. However it was his appearance as a contestant on Australian Idol in 2006 that really put Bobby on the Australian musical radar. Bobby’s journey continues as he constantly tours the country with his band The Omega 3.
